The Torchbearer grinder installed in Muteff-Abuh

The Torchbearer grinder for the Muteff-Abuh community is up and running. The grinder arrived that community on Thursday March 3, 2005 after spending a night in Fundong town on its way from Bamenda. Completion work on the drums to be used for the grinder’s cooling system could only be done on Thursday morning prior to departure for Muteff. Continue

Torchbearer Botanical Gardens begin in Nkambe

Another recent development in the Torchbearer Foundation-Cameroon is the birth of the Torchbearer Botanical Gardens in Nkambe, the divisional headquarters for Donga-Mantung. This started last January, shortly after the birth of the environmental arm of the Torchbearer Foundation Community Centre, Nkambe.

With the collaboration of the Mayor of Nkambe Rural Council, Mr. Jones Mangoh, the strategic piece of land close to the Chua Chua waterfall was offered the Torchbearer Foundation to transform into a botanical garden. Under the leadership of Dieudonné Tantoh (popularly known as Farmer Tantoh), the Torchbearer Assistant Divisional Coordinator for Donga-Mantung in charge of Environmental Development and Mr Njingti Denis, this triangular piece of land which was seen by the community as barren, waste and abandoned will be transformed to the benefit of the Nkambe community in many ways.

By late Feb, work at the botanical gardens intensified as clearing was completed. Part of the land was ploughed and work in the nursery started. Three multi-purpose agro-forestry trees - leucaena, acacia and calliandra were also nursed on the site. The first fruit tree, loquat, planted in the garden was donated by Mr Ngome Shadrack- a retired Divisional Delegate for agriculture.

The Torchbearer's vision for environmental development for Nkambe in particular and Donga-Mantung Division in general has attracted the attention of the community and the local government.

Bem 2 village Church building in flames

The Bem 2 church building in Misaje Sub-Division of Donga-Mantung Division, was consumed by fire last September 2004. The Bem 2 Christians are currently attending Sunday services at the Bem 2 palace.

Remains of the Bem 2 Churh building

Prior to the fire incident, the Bem 2 Palace Torch under the leadership of its Fon (Fon Simon Jemesi), had the church building as its primary burden. Despite the poor state of the palace, this Torch saw the need for a better Church building especially as the congregation was growing. The fire incidence made the need to construct a new Church building more urgent than before.

April 2005 Prayer Bulletin

Scripture of the month:

“Then the angel spoke to the women. ‘Don’t be frightened!’ he said. ‘I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified, but he isn’t here! For he has come back to life again, just as he said he would. Come and see where his body was laying………… ” Mathew 28: 5 & 6.

Friday April 1, 2005

The Torchbearer grinder for the Muteff-Abuh community in Fundong Sub-Division of the North-West Province of Cameroon is up and running. Praise God for the completion of this first phase of the project. Commit the grinder management committee unto the Lord as they work towards achieving the goals of the project including:

-saving the community’s time and energy from traveling over long distances to grind maize

-raise funds to educate needy children in the Muteff-Abuh community.
