The Torchbearer Foundation is working towards becoming a clearinghouse for volunteers -mobilizing people and resources to deliver creative solutions to community problems. We are working on building a powerful network of local volunteers in our effort to strengthen the spirit of community service. Our primary target is the youths.

“Youth constitute more than half of our population, and one can say that already, they constitute the nation of the present because of the huge responsibility saddled upon them to bear the torch of national development and progress, and unity.  Until the youth are fully associated with and mobilized for national development, this nation will never succeed in winning its way towards mastering its great destiny.” The Herald, Yaounde, 8-10 Feb 2002.

We need volunteers in the following areas:

 

1. Community service and volunteerism (Cameroon-Africa)

We need volunteers to assist us in efforts in building a spirit of community service in our youths. We plan to organize volunteer workshops/talks in schools during school terms to encourage students to form volunteer clubs in their schools. We plan to empower students to make meaningful contributions to their communities through the promotion of community service projects in their home towns during holidays. We will like to organize volunteer days and projects in different parts of Cameroon. Possible projects include: cleaning of hospitals, planting of flowers in communities, health talks, cleaning of water tanks, etc.

 

2. Short-term missions to Africa

• Medical Missions (Cameroon-Africa): We need physicians and other health personnel who want to dedicate their services and other resources to improving the quality and availability of health care for the poor, especially in rural areas. We will make contacts with target communities prior to your coming and some of our team members will accompany you to local areas to do consultations (dentists are in great need) …….

• Church roofing missions (Cameroon-Africa): We need volunteers (individuals or groups) to organize teams of carpenters to mobilize resources and roof churches in needy areas in Cameroon.

 3. Fund-raising

We need volunteers to carry out fund-raising activities for our ministry. This may take the following forms:

• organize a group in their community (church, friends..) to sponsor a project for the Torchbearer Foundation

• Introduce the Torchbearer Foundation to their missions committee or other bodies

• Develop projects for the Torchbearer Foundation and present to potential sponsors, etc

4. Special events (Cameroon-Africa)

• Basic life skills to Children: We need volunteers to teach basic life skills to children.

5. Orphan sponsorship (Cameroon-Africa)

We need volunteers to sponsor orphans either through contributing to our Torchbearer Orphan Development Fund or sponsoring (partially or fully) a particular orphans.

 

6. We will be glad to learn about other ways you may be of help to the Torchbearer Foundation.
